It’s my desire that you will not live “on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.” { see Matthew 4:4 }. God’s Word is the HeartBread we all need to feast on and digest regularly.
Each Monday, you’ll find a new verse ready for you to learn by heart and a free printable workbook to help you do just that. Workbooks are now available in the Free Printable Library to download and print in both NASB and KJV.
HEAR IT
NASB:

abstain from every form of evil.

KJV:
Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
Abstain from all appearance of evil.

KNOW IT

LIVE IT
Just as we are creatures of influence, we are creatures of habit.
We enter this world and grow up within a framework of traditions.
Some we retain when we’re old enough to decide; some we don’t.
Some we don’t even question, but accept as ‘just the way things are’.
But sometimes, it’s good to question our habits, routines and activities, to see if they are pleasing to our Creator.
As His creations, we have a responsibility to Him. As His followers, we have committed to surrender our selfish preferences so we can live fully for Him.
Our HeartBread verses this week encourage and command us to examine everything carefully. That means EVERYTHING.
What do we do? Why do we do it? Should we be doing it? Does it please God?
And as we answer these questions, even about things we may not have questioned before, we are to divide our habits, routines and activities into one of two categories:
Hold fast to those things that are good in God’s eyes and pleasing to Him.
And, painful as it may be, abstain from every appearance of evil.
May God grant us wisdom, integrity and devotion to Him as we obey His Word.

In my class the other day, I asked the students why they thought Isaiah said we need to come and reason through the Word of God. (Is 1:18) This verse is another one of those reminders of the importance of holding everything up to the light of His Word and always letting that be the deciding factor in all we do. Holding fast to that which is good, that is such a great reminder! God’s Word.. it is that good thing to hold onto.
Blessings,
Dawn
Amen, Dawn! Sounds like you’re doing a great job in your class! Keep holding the Word of God up high 🙂 May He bless you for your faithfulness to Him and His word.
Thanks for this because we need the Word of God to help us to “hold fast to what is good.” And even to recognize it!
Amen, Michele – without the Word to hold us accountable, so much darkness can creep in unnoticed! Praying that the Lord will help us both examine everything this week 🙂
